Michael Pena Discusses Ant-Man

Actor Michael Pena talks about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and working with Robert De Niro on "American Hustle."

In "Ant-Man," Paul Rudd is Scott Lang, an ex-thief trying to go straight. But when former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) asks Scott to steal a specialized suit from Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), Scott is thrust back into action with the help of Pym's daughter Hope (Evangeline Lilly) and Scott's old cellmate Luis (Pena).

For producer Kevin Feige, there is more to Luis than meets the eye. “We meet Luis at the beginning of the film,” says Feige. “He’s a lot of fun and provides...some of the best comic relief of the movie."

Director Peyton Reed adds, “I really liked the notion of honor among thieves or this idea of being ‘thick as thieves.’ It’s very telling that when Scott finally gets out of prison, the one guy who shows up for him there is Luis, and whatever has happened to this guy in his life—and bad things have happened to him in his life—he is relentlessly optimistic and enthusiastic, which are endearing qualities for a character. That was an important element and was something that Michael and I talked about bringing to that character.”

In the interview below, Pena and I chat about Luis, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his work on "End of Watch" and "American Hustle." Enjoy!
